Kamas has long been known as the “Gateway to the Uintas” and it has been used as a supply station for those people who pass through to the Uinta Mountains and Wilderness Area for camping, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, and other recreational activities. The Kamas Valley is located about eighteen miles east of Park City and about forty-five miles southeast of Salt lake City in a valley surrounded by the Uinta Mountains to the east, the Wasatch Mountains to the west, the Provo River on the south, and the Weber River to the north. Beaver Creek, a tributary of the Weber, traverses the center of the city. Kamas and the entire valley are characterized by its relative isolation and intense natural beauty. Logging, ranching and dairy farming are what initially attracted settlers to the area. Now open space, recreation, and family friendly atmosphere have made Kamas a very desirable place to live.
Park City could certainly stake a rightful claim of being the “perfect mountain town.” Combining its silver mining town heritage, an artistic vibe and a deep appreciation for the outdoors, Park City strikes a balance between luxury and comfort, all the while showing a deep appreciation for athletics, arts and community. Any visit to Park City requires a leisurely walk down Historic Main Street past the vibrant Victorian architecture of old mining cabins, lovingly restored and maintained by residents. This street is the centerpiece of this mountain town, and home to dozens of restaurants, bars, unique local shopping experiences and other fun things to do in Park City that offer visitors the very best of Utah. The Deer Valley Music Festival and Kimball Arts Festival headline a calendar full of great Park City events throughout the warmer months. Hosted in Park City, Sundance Film Festival is one of the largest independent film festivals in the world.
